Office Move
Ashton Bennett moved to larger offices in June 2008 to accommodate additional staff and the growing business. We are now situated in Bridge Mills on the Huddersfield Road in Holmfirth which provides easy access to Leeds and the north, to the midlands and to the main arterial motorways. We also have satellite offices in the south and southwest as work takes our staff to all corners of England and Scotland.

Assessment of Contaminated Land
Guidance for assessing contaminated land has been reviewed again by the Environment Agency and new guidelines are currently being released. In the interim where no guidance is available from CLEA, Ashton Bennett are using available data from recognised sources to input into various computer software to determine suitable levels of compounds which can remain in the soil without detrimentally affecting sensitive receptors on specific sites.
The Environment Agency have recently published SGV reports and associated TOX reports for six substances:
• Benzene
• Toluene
• Ethylbenzene
• Xylenes
• Mercury
• Selenium
When the EA publish the remaining reports will depend on various factors, including the availability of good scientific data, timely agreement on data interpretation, and interaction with other on-going work with other national and international authorities.
During April, May and June 2009 the EA anticpate publishing reports for:
• Arsenic
• Cadmium
• Chromium
• Cyanide
• Lead
• Nickel
• Dioxins
• Dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls
• Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
The CLEA programme will be continuing, with selected chlorinated solvents (tetrachloroethene, trichloroethene, 1,2-dichloroethane, vinyl chloride, 1,1,1-trichloroethane and tetrachloroethane) prioritised as the next group of substances for consideration.
Ashton Bennett are constantly reviewing new data and incorporating it into software to enable up to date assessment of contamination to ensure compliance with government guidelines.

Geothermal Heat from Earthtest Energy
Ashton Bennett undertake installation of open and closed loop systems to provide heat to homes, businesses, care homes and schools. Once an efficient system is installed there is a 70% saving on heating costs. Our geotechnical engineers design and install the underground pipework in boreholes sunk to appropriate depth and our mechanical and electrical engineers install the heat source pumps and the heating and air recovery systems.
Ashton Bennett has now launched this side of the business under their Earthtest banner as Earthtest Energy and details can be viewed at www. earthtestenergy.com
Together we supply install and commission whole systems to maximum efficiency.
